Tonight was Rick’s senior prom. He had asked his girlfriend, Jordyn, to go with him and she said yes. Next step was confirming that she was okay with him wearing his kilt. Turns out, she is part Scottish and loved the idea of the kilt. So I let her borrow my sash and broach to wear.
Rick got all dressed up in his kilt and Prince Charles jacket along with the other items you wear with a kilt. He even got out the sporran to wear. I asked how he expected to dance with it on, but he assured me he meant to leave it on the table while dancing. He looked very nice and spiffy in his duds.
If you remember, Rich bought the Prince Charles jacket and vest for Rick when he found out he was serious about wearing a kilt to the prom. Needless to say, I was surprised. I had wanted to buy Rick a jacket, but still couldn’t justify. Rich had not problem thinking it was a great idea if Rick was going to continue to wear the kilt for dress events. It really made the kilt.
Rich and I took acted as chauffeurs for Rick and Jordyn. We went by to pick her up at her house. Jordyn was beautiful in a navy blue dress. She had my sash around her waist and pinned in place with my thistle and deer broach. After a round of pictures, we whisked them away to the promenade.
At McHenry East High School, the students aren’t allowed to drive to the prom. Everyone has to meet at the gym and board buses to the affair. Using this opportunity, the school has a promenade where each group or couple are announced and walk down the sidewalk to the waiting buses. It’s a great way to see the wonderful colors and styles that the kids are wearing for the evening. It was colorful this evening. Tropical colors and patterns seemed to be the tone.
We had to wait for a while since Rick and Jordyn were in the middle of the group to be announced. They made their way down the stairs and through the crowd that lined the sidewalk. I’m always surprised at the number of people there. We saw several of Rick’s friends along the way.
After seeing them off on the bus, Rich took me to dinner in town. Now I’m waiting for the midnight call that they are on their way back to the school. I’ll go out into the night and chauffeur them both home. I hope they have a great night.
