It\u2019s Monday.\u00a0 We had a great weekend.<\/p>\n

First off, Rich and I took off from work on Friday.\u00a0 I took advantage of the time off to sleep in a\u00a0 little extra.\u00a0 We had a lot of running around to do in preparation for the party on Saturday.\u00a0 Someone had to lug that huge piece of brisket home.\u00a0 Then Rick was heading to the Prom that evening.\u00a0 His friend, Rachel, didn’t want to go with just the girls.\u00a0 She asked Rick to go with her.\u00a0 He dressed up in his Prince Charlie jacket and dress pants.\u00a0 Rachel was beautiful her red dress.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, the day started gray and just got better and better.\u00a0 It was a whole different matter down in Louisville.\u00a0 I turned on the TV and watched the rain pour down.\u00a0 Sad to see, but the Derby will thunder on no matter what the weather.<\/p>\n

Rich struggled to get out of bed at 4:00 AM to start the smoker and get the brisket started.\u00a0 It was estimated to take about 12 hours for the 13 lbs of meat to cook.\u00a0 Of course, that depended upon a steady fire and the weather is cooperative.\u00a0 Sascha had to go out with Rich to lend support.\u00a0 However, she didn\u2019t want to come back in.\u00a0 There are some days when she is true wolf and wants to be in the elements.<\/p>\n

Our party got started when Alex and Joe arrived around noon.\u00a0 It\u2019s always good to have some Zureks around.\u00a0 Others started to arrive around 3:00.\u00a0 By 4:00, we seemed to be in full swing with guests, food out and the nibbling had started.\u00a0 We started with lots of appetizers.<\/p>\n

By 4:30, the brisket, chicken, and ribs were done and ready to move to the kitchen counter.\u00a0 That meant it was time for the baked beans, cole slaw, potato salad, Cajun rice, ramen noodle salad, and rolls.\u00a0 We were ready.\u00a0 Grab a plate and join us.\u00a0 By the time it was over, I had a few pieces of chicken left along with a single rib, and less than a pound of brisket.<\/p>\n

As usual, we did pots to enhance the Derby watching experience.\u00a0 I printed out the list of horses.\u00a0 I then cut up the list into strips and put the strips into a cut.\u00a0 I made up 5 cups that each contained the 19 horses that would be running in the Derby.\u00a0 For a single dollar, you had the privilege of pulling out one single strip of paper with a horse on it.\u00a0 We went through the group so that everyone had a chance to buy out of one cup.\u00a0 When it was gone, we started on the next cup.\u00a0 We went through 4 cups.<\/p>\n

On TV, we watched as the jockeys got a leg up and the horses headed out to the track.\u00a0 It takes a while to get down the track and get them all into the gate.\u00a0 At 5:30 Central Time, the race began.\u00a0 We had our strips of paper and shouting for the horses in our hands.\u00a0 This year\u2019s winner did an impossible feat and came out of a second gate to thunder down the track.\u00a0 Orb was in post 16.\u00a0 It was great to watch.<\/p>\n

Back in our house, we had winners too.\u00a0 We paid out to first, second, and third.\u00a0 So we had four first, second, and third place winners.\u00a0 We never did find one of the third place winners.\u00a0 Rich managed to get one of the Orb strips of paper.\u00a0 I bought a couple of strips for Rick\u2019s friend, Tyler, and he won!\u00a0 I must be good luck.<\/p>\n

We also had some international guests this year.\u00a0 Marcin and Aneta are engineers for Krakow who are in Schaumburg working for a few months.\u00a0 I\u2019ve been working with them from Krakow for a few years.\u00a0 We ran into them at an event a couple of weeks ago.\u00a0 Rich invited them to the party and I dropped off invitations to make sure they had the info.\u00a0 They showed up!\u00a0 Rich made sure they tried the mint juleps and Zurekbrau.\u00a0 I think they had a good time.\u00a0 Aneta even won one of the pots.<\/p>\n

Everything began to wind down and the guests were leaving.\u00a0 That meant it was just Rich, Rick, Joe, Alex, and I.\u00a0 I worked on cleaning up as Alex and Rich were catching up.\u00a0 Rick and Joe were hanging out downstairs and playing video games.<\/p>\n

On Sunday, it\u2019s my usual habit to make coffee, read the paper, and have Sascha in my lap.\u00a0 I think it is Sascha\u2019s habit too.\u00a0 She wants to come in on most mornings just to sit in the big red chair or my lap.\u00a0 Alex got up and Sascha\u2019s allegiance quickly changed to join Alex in the big red chair.\u00a0 As typical, Sascha moved from the back of the chair down onto Alex\u2019s chest.\u00a0 I had to explain about the heavy weight on the chest phenomenon that happens when Sascha sits with you in the big red chair.<\/p>\n

We all went out for breakfast at Windhill.\u00a0 This restaurant is a quirky little place with great food and the best decorations.\u00a0 After omlettes for most and cinnamon roll pancakes for Joe, we walked down to the riverwalk.\u00a0 It\u2019s not the kind of walk like San Antonio has, but it has a river, a walkway, and a bridge.<\/p>\n

Alex and Joe took off after we got back.\u00a0 That left us with the rest of the day.\u00a0 I finished mowing the strips of grass that required the push mower.\u00a0 Rick went out to paint the blue gray color on the bottom of the walls on the garage.\u00a0 So now the garage walls have paint on them.\u00a0 After it all dried, it was general opinion that the white requires another coat.\u00a0 Why is it that white always seems to take more coats.<\/p>\n

This week is Rick last week of class.\u00a0 He survived his freshman year.\u00a0 That is if he passes all of his classes.\u00a0 We\u2019ll see after finals.\u00a0 Now it\u2019s time to get a job.\u00a0 I did my part and got him to sign up with Manpower.\u00a0 This is where the staging bay at work pulls workers from.\u00a0 I sent an email to the guy I know who hires those people.\u00a0 Now I have my fingers crossed that Tito needs people soon.<\/p>\n

Well, enough prattle for one day.\u00a0 More to come, as always.<\/p>\n
