{"id":1951,"date":"2013-06-20T20:38:43","date_gmt":"2013-06-21T01:38:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/zurekbrau.com\/blogs\/richsblog\/?p=1951"},"modified":"2013-06-20T21:20:03","modified_gmt":"2013-06-21T02:20:03","slug":"kc-headed-home","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zurekbrau.com\/blogs\/richsblog\/?p=1951","title":{"rendered":"KC: Headed Home"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Monday morning was our driving day again.\u00a0 We had to reverse the trip from Blue Springs, MO to Holiday Hills IL.\u00a0 This was 8 hours and 10 minutes of driving time.\u00a0 Then you have to factor in stops for breaks and breakfast as well as lunch, maybe dinner.\u00a0 It would be 9 to 10 hours total.<\/p>\n<p>We got up rather early for being out the night before.\u00a0 We packed up and headed out to breakfast.\u00a0 Rich had decided on the Bob Evans down the road.\u00a0 It would be on the way out of town as well.\u00a0 We got seated and ordered our breakfasts.\u00a0 I love being close to the south.\u00a0 You can get grits anytime you want them.\u00a0 Our waitress just had to ask about Rich\u2019s Mojoworkin t-shirt.\u00a0 He explained the Muddy Waters song to her.\u00a0 He also had to explain why we were in town.<\/p>\n<p>We finished up and headed out.\u00a0 The road was surprisingly clear of trucks and a lot of track.\u00a0 I was sure it would be crowded.\u00a0 We got up to the Iowa state in pretty good time.\u00a0 Once over the line, we decided to go back on a lesser road and not the main highway.\u00a0 This was Hwy 34.<\/p>\n<p>It was a beautiful drive with little or no traffic.\u00a0 We were making good time.\u00a0 As if I had planned it, we went through Ottumwa.\u00a0 If you are a M*A*S*H fan, you know this is the home of Walter \u201cRadar\u201d O\u2019Reilly.\u00a0 It\u2019s a good sized town, but still farm oriented.\u00a0 We stopped for a break and gas here.\u00a0 I just had to be funny and post on my Facebook account, \u201cWonder if Radar is home?\u201d\u00a0 A couple of people got it.<\/p>\n<p>We continued on to Mount Pleasant, once the home of a subscriber plant back in the heyday of Motorola.\u00a0 This way led us up to Muscatine.\u00a0 Rich checked the restaurant listings and found the Mississippi Brewing Company in downtown Muscatine.\u00a0 Why not?<\/p>\n<p>It was disappointing when we arrived to find a normal bar that didn\u2019t brew at all.\u00a0 Apparently, the owner had a sense of humor and decided to get in on the beer rage by naming a couple of restaurants as Brewing Company.\u00a0 We decided to stay and eat anyway.\u00a0 The food was surprisingly good.\u00a0 Kind of reminded me of the bars in my town and the food they served.<\/p>\n<p>We walked down to the Mississippi River to take a look.\u00a0 It was apparent that the water had really been up high here during the flood back in the spring.\u00a0 The entire parking lot had probably been flooded.\u00a0 There was a huge statue of a clammer with huge tongs.\u00a0 Apparently, this was the shell button capital of the world at one time.\u00a0 I had no idea.<\/p>\n<p>So we headed back out on the road. This meant winding our way through little Iowa towns crammed together to find the highway.\u00a0 We finally hit the bridge and crossed over the mighty Mississippi.\u00a0 The rest of the trip was pretty uneventful.\u00a0 We did manage to rack up a lot of bug guts on the windshield.\u00a0 I remember going through this part of the trip with little pinging noises and realized that we were hitting maybe 10 to 20 in less than a minute.\u00a0 How strange.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m happy to report that most of the farm fields are in good shape.\u00a0 There is lots of green and the plants are getting taller by the day.\u00a0 The farmers appear to be working the fields and we saw several out there personally.\u00a0 You ask how I can report such a finding?\u00a0 I think we saw every farm field between Kansas City and Holiday Hills!<\/p>\n<p>So we arrived home to a very happy Husky and a son who wondered why we returned.\u00a0 Apparently, we just need to pay the bills and give him money for freewill spending and food.\u00a0 Doesn\u2019t he have a job?<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1956\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1956\" style=\"width: 225px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/zurekbrau.com\/blogs\/richsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/06\/Clammer-for-the-Button-Claim.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1956\" alt=\"Statue of clammer commemorating the button industry in Muscatine.
