I\u2019ve had a tomato explosion out there!\u00a0 While on vacation, my tomato plants went on a rampage and just took over the entire bed they were in.\u00a0 They are spilling out onto the patio and the yard.\u00a0 Usually, I have a really hard time growing tomatoes.\u00a0 The weather won\u2019t cooperate and getting the right amount of water on them is difficult.<\/p>\n

Who knew that this year would have the perfect weather to allow the plants to go crazy?\u00a0 And they would pick my vacation to explode everywhere.\u00a0 I wasn\u2019t here to pick them up and redirect the vines into the best places to hang.\u00a0 I doubt that my son has any idea what to do with a tomato plant.\u00a0 He doesn\u2019t even like tomatoes.<\/p>\n

I attempted to pick up the heavier branches and to get these off the ground.\u00a0 It was too late to handle it in a good way.\u00a0 I just had to deal with it as best as possible.\u00a0 It\u2019s definitely not stopping the tomatoes from growing and ripening though.<\/p>\n

A couple of days after we returned, I was able to harvest the first set of cherry tomatoes from the vine.\u00a0 They were warm and sweet.\u00a0 I swear you can taste the sunshine in them.\u00a0 I\u2019m not a big tomato fan.\u00a0 But when they come straight from the vine, I do love them.\u00a0 There is nothing better to define summer than a vine-ripened tomato.<\/p>\n

The other day, I finally picked one of the beefsteak tomatoes after it had ripened.\u00a0 I served it up with dinner and it was delicious.\u00a0 It went perfectly with the sweet corn that we bought from someone at work.\u00a0 Two garden fresh items at one sitting.\u00a0 I do love summer.<\/p>\n

The bad news is that Sascha has discovered the tomatoes.\u00a0 She has been picking the cherry tomatoes off the vine and playing with them.\u00a0 Then she discovered that you could eat them and she loved the flavor.\u00a0 Now I find her with her head buried in the vines picking them all over the place.\u00a0 Until yesterday, she was only bothering the cherry tomatoes.\u00a0 Then I found a small green tomato pulled off the vine and lying in the driveway.\u00a0 I have to convince her that tomatoes are bad for dogs.\u00a0 Bad dog!\u00a0 Bad tomatoes!<\/p>\n

As summer continues for the next month or so, I hope to enjoy more tomatoes.\u00a0 I have a couple of people who have asked for any surplus tomatoes.\u00a0 So I\u2019ll be able to share the warm sunshine buried in the tomatoes with others.<\/p>\n
