What a beautiful weekend.\u00a0 Hard to believe it\u2019s the end of October.\u00a0 On Saturday, the temp was upper 60s to low 70s.\u00a0 On Sunday, the temp was mid 60s.\u00a0 Both days had plenty of sunshine.\u00a0 I even opened up the windows on Saturday to air out the house.<\/p>\n

Saturday morning, I kind of got up on my own.\u00a0 Sascha was waiting, but she was communicating a great need to me at that point.\u00a0 I put her out and made coffee.\u00a0 The house was quiet as I read the paper.\u00a0 The guys stirred a while later.\u00a0 Rick and I made waffles and bacon for lunch.\u00a0 Rich got his own omelet.\u00a0 Then it was off to get haircuts.<\/p>\n

Sascha had been digging in the yard and flowerbeds while we were gone on our last trip.\u00a0 It seems like she always digs the most in the fall.\u00a0 Maybe this was a denning effort on her part to prepare for the season.\u00a0 Rich and I had discussed if a doghouse would stop her.\u00a0 Maybe she just needed somewhere of her own to crawl into and hide away.\u00a0 Today, we went shopping for a doghouse.\u00a0 At Petsmart, they had only a couple of styles.\u00a0 Man, they were expensive.<\/p>\n

While we were looking, Rich turns around and says he can make a doghouse for Sascha.\u00a0 I thought he was kidding.\u00a0 We decide to wait and see what Blain\u2019s Farm and Fleet has in the way of doghouses.\u00a0 I got online when we returned home.\u00a0 Nope, they have the same thing everyone else has.\u00a0 Rich decided to try and make her one first.\u00a0 Maybe she didn\u2019t even want a doghouse.\u00a0 OK, he\u2019s on.<\/p>\n

After getting a plan from the Internet, he sorted through his wood stock and set up the sawhorses.\u00a0 I guess this really is on.\u00a0 After about an hour, there was a base on the driveway.\u00a0 I helped Rich get 2x4s from the attic for the walls.\u00a0 Pretty soon, there was a structure out there without a top.<\/p>\n

Rick thought he would be funny and climb into for fit.\u00a0 Sascha just couldn\u2019t handle that.\u00a0 She came running over and up onto the base.\u00a0 There was no way that Rick was laying claim to this.\u00a0 It was definitely her doghouse.\u00a0 I guess she did want a doghouse to hide in.<\/p>\n

I set Rick to cooking steaks for dinner.\u00a0 Rich was still working and Rick needs to practice his grilling skills.\u00a0 With the new grill, there was the searing grate that added a new step to grilling.\u00a0 Rich insisted on it.\u00a0 Sascha was hanging out by the grill hoping that something was dropped.\u00a0 These are steaks.\u00a0 Not a one of those guys is going to drop something that important to them.\u00a0 She would just have to wait until dinner was done.<\/p>\n

Yeah, after dinner.\u00a0 Rick carved off what was left on his steak and prepared the bits for her.\u00a0 She watched so intently.\u00a0 It\u2019s a good thing she doesn\u2019t have lasers for eyes. \u00a0It might just feel like that at times.\u00a0 Rick got up to walk to her dish and Sascha started in with the happy dance.\u00a0 She walks on her back feet, jumps around, and twirls a lot during the happy dance.\u00a0 She can barely contain herself. With the release click, she dives into her dish and doesn\u2019t come for air until everything is gone and the dish is licked clean.<\/p>\n

Saturday was pretty quiet.\u00a0 We just hung around and watched TV.\u00a0 But Sunday morning, I woke up to the sound of chewing.\u00a0 Sascha was chewing her toenails!\u00a0 As soon as she thought I was even a little bit awake, she jumps up and starts dancing around.\u00a0 Now, you would think this is because she wants out to take care of business.\u00a0 Nope, she just wants to go out and check out the wildlife.\u00a0 I know this from experience.\u00a0 I try to go back to sleep, without any luck.<\/p>\n

So I get up and get dressed.\u00a0 Sascha is doing her happy dance in anticipation of getting outside.\u00a0 I put her out and she runs to the deck to see if the woodchuck is out.\u00a0 At least I hope it\u2019s the woodchuck.\u00a0 On Thursday, I put Sascha out at around 6:00 AM, like usual.\u00a0 I didn\u2019t even look out in the yard.\u00a0 She went tearing out of the garage with such a force, I was scared.\u00a0 Then I saw it. \u00a0There was a skunk in the yard!\u00a0 Oh my god!\u00a0 Luckily, the skunk took off and didn\u2019t spray on his way!\u00a0 I grabbed the dog and hauled her back into the house before anything else happened.\u00a0 After it was daylight, we tried again with more success.<\/p>\n

Since it was quieter this morning, I was able to get coffee and start on the Sunday paper.\u00a0 Pretty soon, Rich was up and looking for the comics.\u00a0 Sascha came in from outside and demanded to sit in my lap.\u00a0 Really?\u00a0 Didn\u2019t Aunt Rose tell you that you aren\u2019t a lap dog?\u00a0 There was no denying her this morning.\u00a0 She crawls in my lap and seems so happy.<\/p>\n

Luckily, she decides to transfer her love to Rich and goes over to hop up in the big red chair with him.\u00a0 We read for another hour before it\u2019s time to get dressed and go out for some breakfast.\u00a0 We are still deciding where to go as we drive out of the neighborhood.\u00a0 By the time we get to River Road, we decide on Brunch as our destination.\u00a0 It\u2019s early enough.\u00a0 Brunch is a fair sized place, but it gets a lot of traffic.\u00a0 We arrive and find no one standing outside.\u00a0 That\u2019s a good sign.\u00a0 Inside, the wait is about 10 minutes.\u00a0 Pretty soon, we get our table and order.\u00a0 Everything here is fresh and the food is pretty good.\u00a0 It\u2019ll be a good start to our day.<\/p>\n

After breakfast, we head home and back to work.\u00a0 Rich gets ready to finish off the doghouse.\u00a0 I go out to work in the yard.\u00a0 I really need to spray for the box elder bugs.\u00a0 They are all over the front of house and coming into the house.\u00a0 That has to stop.\u00a0 No more bugs!\u00a0 Rick hooks up the water hose and I spray down the front of house to kill the bugs and put down a barrier for any others that might come along.<\/p>\n

Finally, the roof is ready to install on the doghouse.\u00a0 It really looks good.\u00a0 Rich put an extra support in the center to hold more weight, if needed.\u00a0 It probably will be needed since I can see Sascha jumping up there.\u00a0 I saw pictures of her on top of the doghouse at the rescue back in the day.\u00a0 She could repeat this habit.<\/p>\n

I did a walk around the yard to look at what was left of my flowers.\u00a0 The dahlias and the zinnias are still in bloom.\u00a0 They aren\u2019t looking their best, but they are still out there and being very colorful.\u00a0 I expect them to continue until we have a really hard frost.\u00a0 The couple of frosts to this point haven\u2019t been that hard.\u00a0 I was able to get some pictures.\u00a0 The jump ups on the deck still looked good.\u00a0 I even had a bunch that managed to transfer themselves over to an empty spot and come up on their own.\u00a0 I miss the color and beauty as they perish.<\/p>\n

For dinner, Rich put on a fest chicken and set the rotisserie on grill to cook it.\u00a0 Fest chicken is Rich\u2019s version of the chicken that he remembers in Germany.\u00a0 It is garlic, butter, and parley stuffed inside a chicken.\u00a0 The seasoned chicken is grilled on a rotisserie.\u00a0 It is wonderful.\u00a0 It is one of Rick\u2019s favorite meals.\u00a0 The weather is perfect for this meal.\u00a0 Sascha loves the smells.<\/p>\n

After dinner, we took Sascha for a walk around the neighborhood.\u00a0 It was still nice out and you didn\u2019t really need a coat.\u00a0 Rick even joined us.\u00a0 We got around by the lake and we saw a couple of deer.\u00a0 We thought we could get by them before Sascha noticed.\u00a0 Nope, her ears went up and she was all attention.\u00a0 She barked and they took off into the tall grasses around the lake.<\/p>\n

So it was the close of another perfect day and a great weekend.\u00a0 I know winter is coming soon, but we had late summer just one more time.<\/p>\n
