{"id":508,"date":"2012-01-27T20:21:08","date_gmt":"2012-01-28T02:21:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.zurekbrau.com\/blogs\/richsblog\/?p=508"},"modified":"2012-01-27T20:21:08","modified_gmt":"2012-01-28T02:21:08","slug":"memphis-road-trip-leaving-clarksdale","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zurekbrau.com\/blogs\/richsblog\/?p=508","title":{"rendered":"Memphis Road Trip:  Leaving Clarksdale"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is a sad day.\u00a0 We awoke in our share cropper&#8217;s cabin\u00a0 to a sunny day.\u00a0 However, this was the day that we are leaving Clarksdale and the Delta to return home\u00a0to Illinois.\u00a0 You should be able to hear the loud wailing and mourning at this point.<\/p>\n<p>We cleaned up the cabin, packed the car, and took the key to the lobby up at the Commissary.\u00a0 There were four people ahead of us to check out and no coffee left in the pot.\u00a0 Sad again.\u00a0 We waited for our turn.\u00a0 Ended up, the two couples ahead of us were from Chicago.\u00a0 We talked a little while we waited our turns.\u00a0 Finally, it was my turn to sign the receipt and drop off the key.<\/p>\n<p>We headed into town to find kleenex, gas, and breakfast.\u00a0 I stopped at the first station going into town.\u00a0 A little bit of a dump with no window cleaning devices, but they had cheap gas.\u00a0 No kleenex either.\u00a0 So on to breakfast.\u00a0 The recommendation was for The Resthaven.\u00a0 I pulled into the lot under a sign that says,\u00a0 &#8220;American, Italian, Lebanese.&#8221;\u00a0 What?\u00a0 I want breakfast!\u00a0 The parking\u00a0lot is full and that is a very good sign.\u00a0 We picked out a booth and sat down.\u00a0 The place was filled with old guys and duck hunters!\u00a0 We ordered food, including my beloved grits.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The waitressowner was busy getting food.\u00a0 Pretty soon, one of the very tall guys came around with the coffee pot filling up everyone&#8217;s cups.\u00a0 So the local clientele help out with the coffee! That was cool.\u00a0 Our food arrived and it was pretty good. One of the very tall duck hunters brought the coffee pot around the second time.\u00a0 For some reason, there were a lot of guys well over 6 foot 4 in this place!<\/p>\n<p>We finished up and headed out in search of kleenex.\u00a0 The Kroger came up and we went in.\u00a0 Rich hit the pharmacy for things to stop the nose from running away and cough drops.\u00a0 We found the kleenex. Yeah!\u00a0 After paying for our treasures, we hit the road again.\u00a0 This meant that we had to return up\u00a0 Hwy 61 to Memphis.\u00a0 We knew this part of the road.\u00a0 I also have another connection between Memphis and Chicago.\u00a0 They drive extremely fast on their expressways too!\u00a0 Sound like 355 or 90 to anyone from Chicago?<\/p>\n<p>As we moved steadily north, the weather became cooler and cloudier.\u00a0 No, I&#8217;m not ready for winter again.\u00a0 I liked spring!\u00a0 I guess I don&#8217;t get a choice though.\u00a0 I do have to make money to pay for trips like this.\u00a0 We stopped in Troy, Illinois for the night.\u00a0 We were at least back in the same state we live in.\u00a0 We went in search for Bandana&#8217;s BBQ.\u00a0 We ate here on our way back from New Mexico and I was impressed.\u00a0 And I&#8217;m still impressed.\u00a0 The food was great and you have to leave room for the donut holes at the end of the meal.<\/p>\n<p>So now for a good night&#8217;s sleep and on to McHenry in the morning.\u00a0 Good night all.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_513\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-513\" style=\"width: 268px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zurekbrau.com\/blogs\/richsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Rich-at-Crossroads2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-513\" title=\"Rich at Crossroads2\" src=\"http:\/\/www.zurekbrau.com\/blogs\/richsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/Rich-at-Crossroads2-268x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"268\" height=\"300\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-513\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Rich at the Crossroads<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It is a sad day.\u00a0 We awoke in our share cropper&#8217;s cabin\u00a0 to a sunny day.\u00a0 However, this was the day that we are leaving Clarksdale and the Delta to return home\u00a0to Illinois.\u00a0 You should be able to hear the loud wailing and mourning at this point.
