{"id":597,"date":"2012-03-06T19:54:07","date_gmt":"2012-03-07T01:54:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.zurekbrau.com\/blogs\/richsblog\/?p=597"},"modified":"2012-03-06T19:54:07","modified_gmt":"2012-03-07T01:54:07","slug":"be-thankful-for-every-day","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/zurekbrau.com\/blogs\/richsblog\/?p=597","title":{"rendered":"Be Thankful for Every Day"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sorry, but this one is a little bit of downer.\u00a0 Last Friday, a huge tornado hit very close to my hometown.\u00a0 Henryville IN is only 20 miles up the road for my little town.\u00a0 A lot of people I know live up that way.\u00a0 Luckily, no one I know was hurt and my family is all save.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In 1974, a series of tornadoes came through the area.\u00a0 These were part of a super cell that developed and swept the country.\u00a0 I remember driving through the same area looking at twisted trees and torn roofs.\u00a0 At least Henryville and Marysville were spared that year.\u00a0 This year, they were not so lucky.<\/p>\n<p>I saw the pictures of Henryville High School (which also housed the grade school and middle school).\u00a0 It was so bad to look at.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve been in that school a bunch of times over the years.\u00a0 Henryville is one of the 3 schools that make up my home school district, West Clark Community Schools.\u00a0 I was glad to hear that no one was hurt there, even though there were students and teachers in the building at the time.<\/p>\n<p>The town looks absolutely devasted in the pictures that everyone is posting.\u00a0 My great aunt and uncle lived on the hill behind what used to be Stewart&#8217;s Funeral Home.\u00a0 All I see are splinters in that area.\u00a0 I could see Dr. Carr&#8217;s old building, but I assume it took damage.\u00a0 It&#8217;s like my memories have been turned upside down.<\/p>\n<p>I thought I saw the house that my dad was born in, but it might have been another house.\u00a0 He was born just on the other side of the Clark State Forest outside of Henryville.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve marveled that the house has stood this long.\u00a0 He would have been 89 this years.\u00a0 Someone has fixed it up over the last few years.\u00a0 I hope it survived.<\/p>\n<p>Marysville was destroyed as well.\u00a0 I remember times hanging out there when my dad&#8217;s cousin, Dicie Belle,\u00a0lived in the area.\u00a0 Back a generation or two, my aunt&#8217;s family lived there.\u00a0 They are all gone now and now the storm has blasted away their houses as well.\u00a0 From what I saw in photos and video, the hardware store, the church and a couple of buildings were all that was left.\u00a0 So sad. But luckily, no one lost their lives there.<\/p>\n<p>Some cousins live just north of Marysville.
