Yes, the roof is done!\u00a0 No more banging, dropping things, or saws going off.\u00a0 And it’s pretty!<\/p>\n

I worked at home for the last days while they were putting a new roof over our heads.\u00a0 The last roof might have been 18 years old.\u00a0 No one is sure.\u00a0 During the last windstorm, we lost a few shingles.\u00a0 Rich and Rick have been doing repairs on the loose shingles for a while.\u00a0 Time to give in and just replace the bad boy.\u00a0<\/p>\n

I called around about a metal roof.\u00a0 The only estimate we got was extremely high.\u00a0 Rich took one look and said, “Are you crazy?\u00a0 No metal roof for you, young lady.”\u00a0 I then turned to the last company who did work for us.\u00a0 Pete came out with his samples and we talked roof.\u00a0 Turns out, they could do a metal roof much cheaper, but Rich had his mind set on architectural shingles by now.\u00a0 I only had one requirement:\u00a0 color.\u00a0 I wanted red, but Rich wouldn’t go for it.\u00a0 However, he did bend to having a green roof.\u00a0 At least it wasn’t gray, black, or brown.<\/p>\n

On Monday, the shingles were delivered.\u00a0 Rich took a picture of them and sent it to me.\u00a0 Yes, he was off that day brewing beer for the pig roast.\u00a0 They were a nice deep forest green.\u00a0 On Tuesday, three guys showed up to do the work.\u00a0 From the sounds, they were all Polish.\u00a0 Steve came to the door to announce their presence, but Sascha had already told me they were out there.<\/p>\n

I had to finally put Sascha inside.\u00a0 She wouldn’t leave them alone when they were on the ground.\u00a0 She attacked one poor guy so she could give him kisses.\u00a0 I resorted to walking her in the yard.\u00a0 She was hating life lately.\u00a0<\/p>\n

All day long and into almost the dark, they tore off the old, sawed away bad, hammered on tar paper and edging, and then the shingles went on.\u00a0 They got the back of the house done by 7:00.\u00a0 Then on Wednesday, they returned to finish the front.\u00a0 At lunch, I noticed that there was no noise.\u00a0 I peeked out and the ladder was gone.\u00a0 I stepped out and noticed all the cars were gone.\u00a0 Walking out to the garage, I noticed the dumpster wagon was gone.\u00a0 They were done!<\/p>\n

I could let Sascha back out into the yard without having to restrain her.\u00a0 She was loving life once again.\u00a0 She rolled in the grass and stretched out.\u00a0 At one point, she took off to the far reaches of her lead so I couldn’t take her in.\u00a0 It was nice day so I left her out there.\u00a0 There were no more roofers to watch though.<\/p>\n

I walked around the house with my camera and took pictures.\u00a0 It turned out nice.\u00a0 When Rich got home from work, he walked around the house to take in the roof and look for glaring issues.\u00a0 He didn’t seem to find an.\u00a0 Now the building inspector for the village gets to have his say.\u00a0 But it looks like we have a new roof for another 20 years.\u00a0 Then I assume it will be the next owner’s problem to repair and replace.<\/p>\n
