For the last time on this vacation, Rich woke up again.<\/p>\n
Today is the last day on the road.\u00a0 We have to get from Des Moines, IA to Holiday Hills.\u00a0 The day was going to prove a warm one, so the air conditioning was on from the start.\u00a0 No hanging either arm out of the car window for extra bronzing.<\/p>\n
We made good time, even with construction on the way.\u00a0 We hit the Quad cities on the Mississippi River.\u00a0 We stopped at the Illinois Welcome Center.\u00a0 This overlooks the Mississippi.\u00a0 Not much else there.<\/p>\n
We headed into Rockford to eat at one of our favorite places.\u00a0 The Machine Shed used to have the best chicken livers, but now they are reduced to an appetizer, except for Sundays.\u00a0 Still the food is excellent and the sides are served family style.\u00a0 We got our fill and moved on down the road.\u00a0 At least I was going to have to fix dinner tonight.<\/p>\n
Did I mention that we had stopped here several years ago from our Colorado vacation and evacuated a stray lizard who hitched a ride from Colorado Springs?\u00a0 I’m pretty sure he doesn’t still live here.<\/p>\n
We got into home about 3:30.\u00a0 Now came the task of unloading the entire car into the house before anyone could relax.\u00a0 Rich turned on the water to house so we had flushing toilets.\u00a0 Finally, the car was empty.\u00a0 We could spend the next day or so putting things back where they belong.<\/p>\n
My first order of business was get the laundry started.\u00a0 I only ended up with 3 loads to clean everything, and that included the new t-shirts purchased on the trip.\u00a0 I got things folded, but not quite put away.<\/p>\n
Tired and exhausted, it was good to fall into our own beds and sleep deeply and long into the morning without having to think about driving to another city.\u00a0 I actually even slept in, too, which was unusual.<\/p>\n
Sunday morning, we made coffee and read the paper like any other Sunday.\u00a0 Finally, it was time to call and get a pick up time for Sascha.\u00a0 Virginia said I could get her at 11:00 when her bath would be done and she would be dry.\u00a0 Apparently, Sascha had a hot spot on her side.\u00a0 These are just little sores that come up from something.\u00a0 They aren\u2019t sure what.\u00a0 The kennel had treated it and she only had a scab now.\u00a0 Something I need to watch her for.<\/p>\n
Come 11:00, I went into the kennel and picked up Sascha.\u00a0 As soon as she came through the door, she was so excited and about knocked me down to get a hug.\u00a0 The girls there and I talked and they praised Sascha highly for being such a good dog.\u00a0 They all think she is so beautiful.<\/p>\n
We got home and Sascha dived for her toys before greeting anyone else.\u00a0 Then she went off in search of Rich and planted big kisses on him.\u00a0 She is definitely a Daddy\u2019s girl.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It was really hot out there today.\u00a0 I kept going outside to warm up from the air conditioning, but there was only so much you can take out when the heat is this high.\u00a0 I think it topped out at 93 here.\u00a0 Sascha wanted to be outside, but it was too hot for her.\u00a0 I drug her pool out from under the deck and filled it.\u00a0 She loves her pool.\u00a0 She would play in the water and then go out into the yard.\u00a0 This was repeated several times.<\/p>\n
Rich did BBQ chicken on the grill and we ate well that night.\u00a0 Even Rick\u2019s friend, Tyler, joined us for dinner.\u00a0 It\u2019s been a while since we\u2019ve seen him.\u00a0 Tyler and Rick were hanging out for a while on Sunday.\u00a0<\/p>\n
I spent the day pretty much getting all of the vacation pictures from Rich\u2019s camera and my camera into order and creating files I could post.\u00a0 Then came the task of actually posting them.\u00a0 I only got two folders done by 9:00.\u00a0 Time to call it quits and work on the process over the week.\u00a0 Be looking for a link soon to my Picasa site.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Another vacation done.\u00a0 It was a great one.\u00a0 Now I have to start planning next year\u2019s.\u00a0 Wonder where in the world we should go?<\/p>\n
