First Real Snow Day

Winter has finally come to Chicago.  Today was our first real snow day.  Up until now, they had registered only 1.9 inches at O’Hare.  Our typical for this time of year is around 12 inches.  Needless to say, it was nice.  I’m not a snow fan and the cold really gets to me.  We had maybe 3 or 4 inches by 4:30.

So today was Sascha’s first day of snow since she joined us.  The last snow barely covered the grass so it was hard to tell how she would react to it.  She was outside when it started and didn’t seem to notice it much.  I brought her and she napped quietly.  All except for Rich trying to use her as a foot warmer!  Got to admit, she is soft and fuzzy.  She was patient and put up with him adjusting her body over his bare feet.  I rescued her after a few minutes.

I put her after a while and there was a pretty good ground cover.  She went rooting through the snow with her nose and rolling in it.  I’m pretty sure she saw snow when she was living in the rescue kennel.  For Pete’s sake, she was on the dog sledding team!  Anyway, she was enjoying the snow and the cold.  I couldn’t get her in the house for the next 3 hours!  She was just look at me with the great disdain of a husky.

Rick came home from school and I immediately sent him out to shovel thedriveway.  Sascha, of course, had to go out, too!  She rolled around, had snow thrown on top of her, andburrowed into a small mountain that Rick made as he worked to clear the drive.  He did a great job.  Thanks, Rick.  And Sascha was soaking wet.  Thanks, Sascha.

The great thing about a dog is coming home at the end of a hard day and having that happy tail to meet you.  Then, you also get greeted in the best way by Sascha.  She wants to curl up in your lap.  She seems to prefer that you sit in Rich’s big red chair in the living room or in Rich’s office chair.  Wait, could there be a common link here?  She only wants things that have to do with Rich?  Why isn’t Sascha his dog then?  So why am I feeing her? Secretly, I like it when she sits in my lap.

  1. There is a new country song out right now by Billy Currington named Like My Dog. In the song he is singing about how he wants his woman to love him like his dog. Look it up on YouTube and it will make you laugh. My favorite line is “He never looks at me like he might hate me”. He he
